Catford Area Guide
Catford is a district in south London, within the London Borough of Lewisham. Historically it was part of Kent until 1889, when it was absorbed into the newly formed London County Council.
Catford's most prominent landmark is perhaps the Catford Cat, a giant fibreglass sculpture of a black cat positioned above the entrance to the Catford Centre. This small shopping centre is home to a number of well-known high street names and supermarkets and some independent shops.
The Broadway Theatre on Catford Broadway is a beautiful Grade II listed building, with 1930s architecture; it houses a cinema and hosts community events, a wide range of quality theatre and children's shows. Other attractions for residents and visitors include the Lewisham People's Day, held in Mountsfield Park, Hilly's Fields Farmers Market and the Catford Market.
