Hillingdon is a suburban area within the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Uxbridge is a large suburban town and the administrative headquarters of the Borough of Hillingdon. It historically formed part of the parish of Hillingdon in the county of Middlesex and was a significant local commercial centre from an early time. As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, it expanded and increased in population; becoming a municipal borough in 1955 and forming part of Greater London since 1965. Uxbridge is a significant retail and commercial centre and is the location of Brunel University and the Uxbridge campus of Bucks New University.
Uxbridge station, built in 1933 and fronted by a pedestrian high street, is a terminal for two underground lines and is also connected to a bus terminal.
London Heathrow Airport is also located in the Borough of Hillingdon and is approximately 5 miles from the centre of Uxbridge.
