Ripon is a cathedral city, market town and successor parish in the Borough of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, located at the confluence of two streams of the River Ure in the form of the Laver and Skell. The city’s main feature is the Ripon Cathedral but is also noted for the Ripon Racecourse and market. The city itself is just over 1,300 years old.
Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Ripon is the fourth smallest city in England. It is located 11 miles south-west of Thirsk, 16 miles south of Northallerton and 12 miles north of Harrogate. Ripon is a tourist destination due to its close proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Studley Royal Park and Fountains Abbey. It also contains the theme park Lightwater Valley.
