Sherburn in Elmet and South Milford are small villages located in the district of Selby in the county of North Yorkshire. The population has recently boomed due to several housing developments. The area is now generally considered a commuting satellite for Leeds thanks to the local Motorway network, including the A1 (M), M1 and M62. Nevertheless the village maintains links with the local farming community.
The area is served by Sherburn-in-Elmet railway station with services to York, Hull and Sheffield, and a second station (South Milford railway station) provides services to Leeds and Hull, while there are regular bus services to Leeds, Selby, Pontefract and Tadcaster.
Sherburn has two primary schools Sherburn High School which has recently gained the status of a specialist science school. Sherburn High School has a fund raising committee called Friends of Sherburn High (FOSH).
