Sutton Coldfield is a suburb in the northeast of Birmingham, in the West Midlands. Sutton (as it is often abbreviated) is located about 8 miles from central Birmingham but has borders with Erdington and Kingstanding. The town has a historical connection to the Royal Family, resulting in it receiving the title of Royal Town when it was a municipal borough in its own right and part of Warwickshire. Sutton Coldfield became part of Birmingham and the wider West Midlands County in 1972.
The area is home to Sutton Park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe and the largest outside London. It has an area of 2,224 acres and is used as part of the course for the Great Midlands Fun Run. The park is a national nature reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The Town Hall, a relic of Sutton Coldfield's former status as a municipal borough, now serves as a theatre, conference, and function venue. In the town centre is Sutton Parade which is a pedestrianised shopping area and home to the local library.
