Thornton Heath is a district of south London in the Borough of Croydon. It is situated 7.2 miles south-southeast of Charing Cross.
Thornton Heath is one of those places with a split personality. The original settlement clustered around the Pond area on the London Road, but when the railway station came in 1862, the focus of development shifted to what is now Thornton Heath High Street. This latter area was called, for a while, 'New Thornton Heath'.
Today Croydon has something for everyon; shopping, entertainment, restaurants, pubs, nightclubs, heritage, parks and open spaces. The town is an ideal base for exploring London and South East England with excellent public transport and road links. By train, central London is just 20 minutes whilst Brighton can be reached in under an hour.
