Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is the next auction?
Hunters next auction will be held on the 26th March 2008 at York Racecourse

How often do Hunters hold auctions?
Hunters currently hold four property auctions per year

Can I offer on a property prior to auction?
You are welcome to offer on a property prior to the auction. If you wish to do so, please let us know and we will pass your offer on to the vendor. In order for your offer to be considered it will need to be made at the published guide price or above. You will need to be in a position to exchange contracts at least five working days before the published sale date or the vendor will be obliged to let the property continue through to auction.

Can I get a mortgage on a property that I buy at auction?
Many, but not all auction properties are mortgageable. If you will require a mortgage in order to purchase a property at auction it is essential that you take advice as soon as possible as your lender will probably want to carry out a valuation on the property.

What is the reserve price on the property I am interested in?
Reserve prices are agreed privately between the auctioneer and the vendor and are not disclosed. The reserve price of the property is set within or below the guide price.

How soon after auction does the sale complete?
Completion is set for 28 days following the auction. Occasionally this will vary, so do check the special conditions of sale relating to any lot you are interested in.

Do I have to register to attend the auction?
You do not need to register to attend a Hunters auction.

What do I need to bring on the night?
If you are intending to bid you will need to bring your catalogue, deposit, and some form of identification - such as drivers licence, passport. Please also bring the contact details of the solicitor you intend to use.

How can I pay the deposit?
If you are the successful bidder you will be expected to pay a 10% deposit at auction. The deposit needs to be paid either by banker’s draft. We do not accept cash or card payments. Cheques are acceptable only by prior arrangement. All cheques/bank drafts should be made payable to 'Hunters Property Group'.

Do I need to pay any extra charges?
If you are the successful bidder on an auction property you will need to pay a buyers premium in addition to the deposit monies. The charge is £175.00 inc. VAT per property purchased. Cheques should be made payable to Hunters Property Group. If you are the successful bidder at auction you may be required to reimburse the seller the cost of some searches etc. but you can check this by contacting either ourselves or the vendors' solicitors.

What if I can’t make the auction?
If you are unable to attend the auction but would still like to bid please contact the auction department as soon as possible and we can arrange for you make a phone or proxy bid.

What if the property I am interested in doesn’t sell?
Should the lot you are interested in fail to sell on the night then please do register your highest bid with us before you leave the auction room. There is still the possibility that you can purchase the lot.
