Housing Market in 2010? We give it 7 out of 10

2008 witnessed the most depressed levels of activity in the housing market in living memory. For every 10 houses that we were selling in 2006 we were selling only 3 in 2008. Activity levels in 2009 have been much better, the 3 out of 10 has doubled to 6 out of 10. Reports of the death of the housing market in this year were clearly exaggerated as, quite incredibly, prices actually increased by around 10%. This was principally due to the shortage of homes coming onto the market caused by uncertainty about jobs, concerns about the availability of mortgages and the continued blight of Home Information Packs. If we carry on selling more homes than we are putting on the market the natural laws of supply and demand will drive prices higher – and for as long as the shortage continues. We give the prospects for the housing market next year 7 out of 10, but 10 out of 10 for resilience!
